About Me:

Troy Roness of Bismarck, originally from Crosby, ND, is a male exercise/eating disorder survivor. Troy currently serves as the Inaugural United States Male Junior Board Representative for the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) and also serves as the MentorConnect Organizations Male Advisory Board Chair. He was nearly twenty years old when he realized his exercise habits and eating patterns had completely taken control of his life. Following his guest appearance on the 'Dr. Phil Show' in January 2009, Troy battled for two 81-day treatment regimens and still fights today as a male with an exercise/eating disorder.

Following treatment, Troy grasped recovery, his strong faith, and ultimately his life. Each day is a gift from God in his eyes because he was not only given a second chance at life, but a third. Troy fully intends on using his past experiences to motivate and support others who are dealing with similar self-struggles. His recovery has blessed him with opportunities to speak to thousands of people in North Dakota and reach millions of people across the United States, Canada and the world. In addition to blogging for PBS and the Huffington Post, Troy enjoys serving as a resource for numerous advocacy projects and organizations. Reflecting on the pivotal moments of his recovery enables him to reach out through journal, television and radio interviews, speaking on behalf of males and – most importantly – spreading the message that recovery is possible.

Troy graduated (with honors) in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree (B.S.E.) in Health/Physical Education and Minor in Athletic Coaching. Presently, he is pursuing his master's degree (M.Ed.) in Education with an emphasis in Cognitive Science and Mind/Brain Research from Minot State University.
